VCES: Responsible approach to construction and renovation

The construction company VCES, an exclusive member of the Czech Green Building Council, intends to reduce its carbon footprint throughout the value chain in line with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement. The French group Bouygues Construction, of which VCES is a part, has committed itself to this goal as part of its ambitious climate strategy. As a responsible and committed company, it has been innovating and developing sustainable solutions and projects for many years that support the transformation to a green future. However, in the 60 countries in which the group operates, the implementation of this strategy will largely depend on the local capacity for innovation and the strength of the network of partner companies (suppliers and subcontractors).

Bouygues Construction also wants to support the development of responsible operation throughout the entire chain of its activities, from design, through the purchase of materials, construction to the operation of buildings. Based on this strategy, the group will intensify measures to build buildings in even more responsible way, renovate them and support their customers. To this end, it will use a wide range of solutions designed to affect the energy performance of buildings and cities, the production and distribution of decarbonised energy and the development of low-carbon mobility.

To reduce direct emissions (11% of the carbon footprint), Bouygues Construction has taken the following main measures:

• operate a fleet of green vehicles (90% of green vehicles by 2030),
• reduce staff travel (50% fewer international flights and 80% fewer domestic flights),
• reduce energy consumption on all construction sites and other sites.

With its measures, the group reconsiders its entire value chain (89% of the carbon footprint):

• reducing the impact of purchased materials (concrete, wood, cables, etc.),
• cooperation with local suppliers to reduce freight traffic,
• reducing the carbon footprint of IT equipment by 15% by 2025,
• reducing the carbon footprint of cement, plans have been developed in each country to achieve an overall reduction in cement carbon intensity of 40% (kg CO2e / m3),
• implementing 30% of European construction projects as wooden buildings by 2030.

Bouygues Construction also offers its customers a wide range of low-carbon and carbon-free solutions to support their efforts to reduce their carbon footprint: the production and distribution of carbon-neutral energy; energy performance of buildings, districts and cities and the development of low carbon mobility.
